"Equine osteopathy is a relatively new profession and is proving very successful with show jumpers, dressage, eventers and race horses"

Corinne is one of a few equine osteopaths in the South West and spends equal time treating horses as humans. She explains how it works.

"I do the odd MOT on horses but most of the treatments I perform are as a result of an owner noticing a problem with their horse. After an initial examination, involving observing movement, I then look for uneveness and inflexibilty during stretches. Treatment often involves resistance work and using the weight and strength of the horse to self correct any dysfunction.

At the end of a treatment I always advise on the amount of rest or exercise required before the horse can perform again. It's important for both rider and horse that they have confidence to ride without fear of injury. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a horse return to peak physical fitness".
